Red Light Therapy History

Red light therapy was first used in Egypt thousands of years ago. It provides the same energy and nutrients as the sun without radiation. Before we became industrialized, we used to rise with the sun and go to bed when it set, but the world has changed dramatically for those of us who aren’t farmers or ranchers. Many of us work graveyard or split shifts. We often sleep in on days off and miss out on the life-giving health of the sun that’s provided to us between 10 and 11 AM as well as during sunset because we’re working, running errands, making dinner, or any of the other various activities we have to accomplish every day. We miss out on vitamin D and the many other vitamins and minerals the sun gives. Red light therapy helps replenish these vitamins.

Red Light Therapy & Science

Scientists have proven that red light therapy benefits our skin, hair growth and regrowth, muscles, joints, and, most importantly, mental health. It is especially helpful to those who suffer from depression, seasonal depression, and anxiety. It is also highly beneficial to many cellular functions.

Red light therapy emulates the benefits of sunshine without radiation. The sunlight and red light therapy sparks our mitochondria to produce ATP, which provides us with energy. ATP also helps our mitochondria to function optimally. Red light therapy is especially beneficial to those who are stagnant. Stagnant cells become damaged and ineffective over time, which increases our chances of mental and physical illness.

What is ATP?

ATP is a signaling molecule that our cells use to communicate with each other. If new cells need to be made to heal an injury, ATP communicates with the fiber blasts to initiate the healing process. ATP also communicates with macro fascia to remove bad cells. Red light used in only one body area, such as the face or stomach, will also help the rest of the body; this is called the bi-stand effect.

Cells will respond in one of three ways depending on the shape they’re in before exposure to red light.
  1. Cells will self-destruct if damaged or repair themselves during exposure to red light.
  2. The primary functions of the cell will increase in rate or level through the higher turnover of ATP. If cell counts are low in the area exposed to red light, new cells will migrate to that area or be stimulated to grow.
  3. Red light is the only light that can penetrate our skin, muscles, tissue, and bones.

We recommend getting red light therapy for 4-6 weeks, three times per week for 20 minutes each session; this provides long-lasting benefits to the cells, which provides mental and physical wellness.
